THE HEALTH KITCHEN: SWEET HEALTHY SNACKS


Let’s learn to make delicious healthy foods and snacks. If you have a sweet tooth then this is the section for you. I will be using common ingredients native to Nigeria or can be easily gotten from the market or supermarket.

Today we are going to be making 2 very yummy, very healthy and very easy snack. I have specially chosen this two recipes today because I want to start this section with a blast and also because I love chocolate. Do you know dark chocolates are healthy sweets? Imagine combining this with something equally sweet and healthy. Let’s get started.

Head to the nearest shopping mall supermarket and buy some strawberries. Now we will be making chocolate dipped strawberry! It’s simple.

Wash your strawberries, dip them in chocolate paste. You can use chocolate ice-cream dip, melted cocoa or Nutella. Dip the strawberries into the chocolate ensuring that its coated 3rd of the chocolate. While the chocolate is still melting roll the banana on top of any crunchy topping you like such as nuts. Place in the refrigerator until the chocolate coating has hardened. Serve immediately you remove from the fridge and enjoy a sweet but nutritious snack.

Frozen chocolate banana

This sweet snack will ensure you get a frozen sweet treat with some extra nutritional punch! Bananas are great source of vitamin C and B, potassium and fibre.

Get a bunch of bananas, peel and cut into equal halves and freeze. Once solid, take out and roll into melted dark chocolate. You can buy dark chocolate from a supermarket near you or make one out of unsugared cocoa. Return to the freezer (for at least an hour) or until the chocolate is set. Yummy!
